Storage within refrigerated units have long been a very structured process. Not only do you have to consider temperature and ventilation but one simple step that is not given enough thought which is securing or fastening the cargo inside.
First of all, when loading everyone knows to stuff the container or unit within the shortest time possible so that the temperature does not affect either the inside of the unit or the cargo itself. You'll also want to make sure all the packages inside the unit are have an adequate amount of space between them for airflow as to create good ventilation. While doing this however air pockets should be minimized.
When packing or loading the cargo you'll always want to make sure that there is space between the door and the cargo. The less space there is, the shorter cycle of airflow. Remember, cargo should never be stored above the red load line within the reefer container; otherwise it will impede the airflow, which could affect the quality of product out-turn.
Sometimes securing reefer cargo can be quite tricky. You may need to use a wedge or chocks to secure material in the container. Also, one very common way to tie-down your cargo would to be to stretch a cam buckle across attached at the e-track. These do seem like simple ways of securing the cargo but they are sometimes overlooked and save you painstaking agony if the cargo is not secured properly.
